Regulatory Changes

Current definitions from the ORM-D hazard class, accustomed to ship consumer goods including household chemicals, certain beauty items, automotive additives, and a large number of products which are generally stocked in the shops of major retailers come in 49 CFR 171.8, along with other areas of 49 CFR govern the shipment of various goods by ground or by air.

NOTE: PHMSA eliminated the ORM-D Air hazard class by December 31, 2012. By its latest (The month of january 7, 2013) HM-215K rulemaking, the ORM-D hazard class should be eliminated by December 31, 2020.

Succinctly, this Rulemaking (HM-215K) impacts:

• the way in which these merchandise is shipped

• the way in which these merchandise is packaged and labeled for shipment and

• employe training needs

• and it will impact testing on certain packages.
